Entry Level 1st Shift Material Handler

Description:  Entry level position. Responsible for warehouse cleanliness and proper arrangement of warehouse. Responsible to ensure warehouse is neat/clean.  Per instruction of Manager and Supervisor, assist with daily shipment needs, including strapping/wrapping and other job functions.
Specific Duties:
  • Verifies and reseals boxes, if necessary.
  • Fastens plastic or metal bands around product and/or shrink wraps as needed.
  • Properly labels completed order for shipping.
  • Picking/pulling of daily orders as capable without forklift.
  • Performs any other duties related to the position as directed by the Distribution Manager or Shipping Lead.
  • Perform regular 5-S of Inventory and Shop Floor areas.
  • Maintain and safe and clean working environment
  • To perform the essential functions of this job, the ability to be trained upon and then safely & effectively operate the following equipment, required;
  • Tape measure, pallet jack, hand truck, plastic & metal band strapper, barcode scan gun, pneumatic drill, driver, staple gun, nail gun. 
  • Timekeeping system
Essential Skills Required:
  • Ability to meet regular attendance requirements
  • Ability to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally with assistance, up to 50 pounds of force frequently without assistance
  • Ability to use hand tools, power tolls as required.
  • Ability to read and understand sales order releases.
  • Display positive “can do” behavior.
  • Must be able to work independently while multi-tasking.
  • Ability to wear proper personal protective equipment (safety glasses, closed toe/closed heel shoes)
  • Language Skills: Ability to read, speak and write in English.
  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide strings of 2 or more digit numbers.
  • Reasoning ability: Able to apply common sense understanding to carry out complex multi-step instructions.
  • Ability to read and understand a tape measure.
  • Ability to bend, squat, kneel, reach, and walk >75% of workday. Ability to stand 8 to 10 hours consecutively.
  • Possess a full range of motion of arms and hands with ability to finger, handle or feel articles to differentiate their textures.
  • Ability to hear to distinguish sounds, such as buzzers and forklift horns, truck backup warnings
Education & Experience Required:
  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • Some experience working in a warehouse, distribution center or manufacturing shipping dept preferred
While performing the duties of this job, regularly exposed to or required to work with the following in the plant:
·   Moving mechanical parts 
·   Noise level in the plant work environment is usually moderate to loud (85+ db).
·   Fumes/odors/dust
·   Standing on concrete
·   Walking on uneven surfaces
·   Hot/Cold temperatures
·   Wet
·   Vibration
Required to wear the following personal protective equipment while performing the essential duties of this job in the plant:
·   Safety Glasses
Shift: 1st (Mon thru Fri 6am to 2:30pm); with possible overtime
